Reflections on practice, teaching, and capability.

Beyond teaching, I write about what martial practice reveals when observed over time: discipline, identity, leadership, self-defense, learning, and how we keep moving forward when things do not go as expected.

Train. Adapt. Endure.

A space to think beyond class.

Train. Adapt. Endure. gathers personal writing on martial practice, teaching, work, family, projects, and learning. Some pieces come directly from the dojo; others explore the same questions from different contexts.

The intention is not to present definitive answers, but to document how ideas change when tested in real life.

On practice

Discipline, identity, and continuity

Reflections on consistency, progress, recovery, starting again, and the difference between chasing results and building an identity capable of sustaining practice.

On teaching

What it means to teach others

Writing on responsibility, leadership, trust, students who come and go, and how practice changes when you stop training only for yourself.

On self-defense

Preparation before fantasy

Ideas on awareness, pressure, decision-making, capability, and the part of self-defense that happens before any physical confrontation.

The Practice Journal

Document the process while it is still happening.

The Practice Journal is a periodic series within Train. Adapt. Endure. where I document projects, experiments, decisions, and learning without waiting for everything to be resolved.

The idea is simple: progress does not always appear as a finished result. Sometimes it appears as continuing to work, reviewing what did not work, and moving forward.

Steady When It Counts

Self-defense through preparation and judgment.

Some of the ideas that guide Ittai Dojo's self-defense discipline also appear in my book Steady When It Counts, focused on awareness, pressure, decision-making, and personal capability.

The goal is to think about self-defense less as a collection of techniques and more as preparation to keep options when a situation gets complicated.
